The film director
- David Maltese left the university with a degree in law and came up to Paris to give life to his passion: cinema. During three years at the ESRA (Higher School of Production and film Direction), he studied film editing as a trainee at the SFP (French Production Society) under the supervision of Robert Coursez (Bob Cash), chief film editor who won twice the French television award ("7 d'or") for the best editing, then he studied production and film making as an assistant in a subsidiary company of France Television.
- During his last year at the ESRA, he wrote and directed a short movie (Dolari) which won 4 awards in the national short movie festival in Nantes among which were the best editing and the best direction.
- He launched again into the direction of a short movie (The pack) which won, the same year, the prize of the national centre of cinematography (CNC). After several corporate movies, he founded his own production company: Darelite 52.
- He wrote and directed two documentaries (52 min each): the first one dealt with the rare Gilles de la Tourette syndrome, the other one was a portrayal of Georges Lautner, the director of Les Tontons flingueurs (Crooks in clover UK / Monsieur Ganster US).
- The encounter with Georges Lautner, far from being a mere interview, gave birth to a true friendship between those two cinema lovers. Lots of DVD features and documentaries about the work of the filmmaker "who directed 43 films in 34 years" were thus made. David Maltese has carried on his collaboration with Georges Lautner who has become for him a true spiritual father and his cinema master. Today, beside his documentary work, David's dream comes true with the preparation of his first full-length movie.
